titleOfInvention METHOD FOR FELLING TITANIUM DIOXIDE HYDRODATE FROM A TITANIUM SULFATE SOLUTION BY THERMAL HYDROLYSIS
abstract In this process, a small amount of a hot alkaline aqueous solution of, for example, NaOH is taken and a small first portion of the titanium sulphate solution is added to it under specified conditions to form a subsolution. This subsolution is then mixed with the rest of the titanium sulphate solution without delay and the titanium dioxide hydrate is precipitated by thermal hydrolysis. It is essential that, in the preparation of the subsolution, at the beginning certain ranges are maintained in the ratio of rate of addition to the amount of TiO2 in the entire titanium sulphate solution. These ranges are determined, in a way which is described in greater detail, using an experimentally determined curve which reflects the dependence of the relative number of nuclei on this ratio. The volume of the first portion of the titanium sulphate solution must be at least large enough for a complete peptisation of the titanium dioxide hydrate initially precipitated to occur while this solution is being added.
