abstract The invention relates to a process for the denitration of exhaust gases (10) which come from a combustion machine or an incineration plant (3). According to the invention, N atoms are introduced into the exhaust gas to be purified, which react with the nitrogen oxide present, forming nitrogen molecules and oxygen molecules. To carry out the process, an apparatus is used which has a generator (4) for producing N atoms. The generator (4) is arranged within the exhaust gas channel (2). In addition, the apparatus (1) is equipped with at least two measuring apparatuses (13 and 14), with the aid of which the NOx concentration is determined in the exhaust gas to be purified and in the purified exhaust gas (10, 11). Depending on the parameters determined, the amount of the N atoms to be produced is regulated by a control and regulation device (15) to which the generator (4) is connected. <IMAGE>
