titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of salts of α-sulfo fatty acid alkyl esters |
abstract | A process is described for the preparation of salts of α-sulfofatty acid alkyl esters of the general formula: $ F1 in which: R1 is an alkyl or alkenyl group having 6-20 carbon atoms; R2 is an alkyl or alkenyl group with 2-8 carbon atoms and M is an alkali, alkaline earth metal or ammonium cation or a cation of an organic base, in which a) a fatty acid alkyl ester of the general formula: $ A R1CH2COOR2 $ A $ A where R1 and R2 have the meaning given, sulfonated, b) the sulfonation product neutralized and c) sulfonic acid anhydrides of the general formula contained in the reaction mixture: $ F2 in which R1 and R2 have the meaning given, decomposed. In the process described, the desired salts of α-sulfo fatty acid alkyl esters are obtained in high yield from fatty acid alkyl esters with an ester-bonded alkyl group having 2 or more carbon atoms. |
