A lactone compound of the 20-spiroxane series of the formula <IMAGE> and the corresponding 17 beta -hydroxy-17 alpha -pregn-4-ene-21-carboxylic acid and its salts have a high aldosterone-antagonistic activity and can be used as potassium-sparing diuretics in the therapy of various types of hyperaldosteronism. The compounds can be obtained by conventional processes of steroid chemistry. |
