abstract A liquid electrolyte for an electrolytic capacitor contains a combination of solvents selected from the group comprising gamma-butyrolactone, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, 3-methoxypropionitrile, substituted cyanamides and combinations of said solvents, and dimethyl sulphoxide. The combination contains the organic solvent and the dimethyl sulphoxide in a ratio of about 75 to 25% by volume.
