abstract Neutron-shielding means with a content of bound water which contains metal hydroxides. The metal hydroxides are mainly in the form of iron hydroxides and/or magnesium hydroxide and are bound by tricalcium aluminate hexahydrate as a hydraulic binder. The production process mixes aqueous solutions of salts of aluminium, magnesium and iron and boils the mixture under specified conditions, a precipitate being filtered off. Slaked lime is added to the precipitated mixture, in which the tricalcium aluminate hexahydrate is formed. The mixture containing the tricalcium aluminate hexahydrate is moulded.
