titleOfInvention METHOD FOR TREATING PHOSPHINE GAS
abstract Gas is released by the hydrolysis of a metal phosphide over a period of 0.25-20 days. The commodity is stored in a bulk container vessel, bin, silo, ship hold or railway truck with a head space above the commodity. Phosphine gas is released in the head space beneath a duct with a fan which can draw gas from the head space and discharge it into the base of the container to deliver the gas to the bulk commodity. The fan is operated periodically for a duty cycle which prevents the build up of phosphine gas to the auto ignition point in the head space. Pests are eradicated from beans, peanuts, soya beans, cocoa beans, or coffee. The phosphine is recirculated through the bulk commodity without danger of auto-ignition.
