METHOD FOR PRODUCING STYRENE AND ETHYLBENZENE FROM TOLUOL |
abstract |
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of mixtures of styrene and ethylbenzene by reacting toluene with methanol or formaldehyde or formaldehyde dimethyl acetal in the gas phase on a zeolite catalyst having faujasite structure, whose exchangeable cations are partially or completely exchanged for Cs ions and which contains 0.05 to 5% by weight of Li. The preferred alkylating agent is methanol. The catalyst can be regenerated. |
