abstract The invention relates to a solid absorbent for carbon monoxide with a content of activated carbon and at least one copper compound which is applied to the activated carbon by introduction into a solvent, subsequent introduction of the activated carbon and removal of the solvent. To prepare the absorbent, at least one copper compound is introduced into a solvent, activated carbon is added after mixing and, after further mixing, the solvent is removed. Suitable copper compounds are copper(I) halides, copper(I) oxide, copper(II) halides, a copper(II) carboxylate-sulphate or -nitrate, or basic copper(II) salts or copper(II) amine complex salts.
