abstract A stock slide valve designed to control the flow of massecuite has an orifice plate (20) which is arranged in a through opening (22) of the inlet pipe of a centrifuge and the aperture (21) of which is smaller than the through opening (22), the aperture (21) interacting with a sliding plate (23) which can be displaced between an end position in which it closes the aperture (21) and an end position in which it opens the latter. The aperture (21) is arranged in such a way within the through opening (22) that the centre of gravity of its area is offset relative to the centre of gravity of the area of the through opening (22) in the direction (32) of opening of the sliding plate (23). In the main operating position of the stock slide valve, which corresponds to the rated flow rate of the latter, the aperture (21) is opened to an extent such that the centres of gravity of the areas of the free cross-sectional area (25) and the through opening (22) approximately coincide. In this way, the flow of stock to be controlled is made to flow in the centre. <IMAGE>
