A hydrophilic layer is formed on a substrate by forming unreacted isocyanate gps. on the substrate surface and treating the surface with a hydrophilic copolymer made from vinyl-pyrrolidone monomers and monomers contg. active H adapted to form covalent bonds with the isocyanate. An extremely stable coating is formed by a simple method. The process is useful in biomedical applications, e.g. wound drains, catheters, surgical tools and arteriovenous shunts. |
