abstract The process is characterised in that a) terminally functional linear olefins of the general formula R<1>-CH=CH-R<4> (A) and linear olefins of the general formula R<2>-CH=CH-R<3> (B), in which R<1>, R<2> and R<3> are H and/or n-alkyl radicals and R<4> represents terminally functionalised alkyl radicals, are subjected, at an increased temperature, to a co-metathesis which is catalysed by a soluble transition metal compound, b) the desired, terminally functionalised, unsaturated product is separated from by-products from the metathesis, and c) the product is subjected to catalytic hydrogenation by methods known per se. i
