titleOfInvention | METHOD FOR PRODUCING GLYCOLIC ACID AMIDES |
abstract | N-monosubstituted and N,N-disubstituted glycolamides of the general formula HO-CH2-CO-NR<1>R<2> (I> (where R<1> and R<2> have the meanings given in the description) - intermediates for certain herbicidally active compounds - can be prepared, starting from sodium chloroacetate, Cl-CH2-COONa (II), in a significantly improved process by refluxing a mixture of sodium chloroacetate (II), a tertiary amine (as catalyst) and xylene (as diluent) for several hours, isolating the resulting solid intermediate by filtering it off with suction and then reacting it with a primary or secondary amine of the formula HNR<1>R<2> (III) in the presence of a quaternary ammonium salt as catalyst, if appropriate under elevated pressure, at 100-200 DEG C. |
