abstract The mercury-vapour high-pressure discharge lamp has a starting auxiliary electrode (8) which is arranged close to a main electrode (2), is constructed as a coil (starting coil) and whose first end is connected via a bridge line I to the adjacent main electrode (2) and whose second end is connected via a bridge line II to the remotely located main electrode (3). The bridge line I contains a series circuit consisting of a rectifier diode (11) and a resistor (12) (PTC thermistor) while the bridge line II is fitted with a switching element (13) (glow starter or thermal switch). A lamp is created which starts reliably at relatively low voltages. <IMAGE>
