abstract A process for the surface treatment of aluminium articles, in particular aluminium parts in vaporisers of air-conditioning units, serves to obtain hydrophilic properties. To improve the hydrophilic properties in such a way that especially the heat exchange effect in the use of the aluminium articles in air-conditioning units is improved, the process is characterised by a first treatment of the surface(s) of the aluminium article to form a chemical coating and by a subsequent treatment with a solution of a compound consisting of or containing silica(s) and/or silicate(s) and/or colloidal siliceous earth(s).
