CLEANING OF HOLLOW FIBERS |
abstract |
The invention relates to a method for cleaning hollow fibres for dialysers and other blood-treatment apparatus of similar construction using a mixture of a liquid which does not take up water with a liquid which does take up water, because experiments show that in this way the advantages, but not the disadvantages, of the two liquids (as shown on use of the corresponding components alone) are combined. In the manufacture of a dialyser or the like from hollow fibres, the latter are first washed out in order to remove an oily liquid present therein, and subsequently moisture is removed in a special drying process in order to reduce the water content of the fibre material. The use of a liquid which takes up water for washing has the disadvantage that the fibres shrink, and thus lose permeability, but also the advantage that part of the moisture is removed during the washing. The use of a liquid which does not take up water eliminates shrinkage but also the uptake of moisture. Experiments show that the advantages of the two are combined, without the disadvantages, (moisture uptake without shrinkage) by a mixture. |
