abstract Metal-vapour high-pressure discharge lamp with a discharge tube at whose opposite end one main electrode each is arranged. The discharge tube has a filling which comprises mercury, a metal halide and an ignition gas selected from the elements argon, krypton and xenon. Further, a radioactive radiation source is provided which contains a radioactive substance which has a half life of less than 1 x 10<4> years. The metal-vapour high-pressure discharge lamp has a starter circuit which consists of a low-voltage ballast designed for mercury lamps and of a starter which ensures that a discharge process takes place in the discharge tube.
