titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of spherical grains of calcium sulfate dihydrate
abstract By reacting finely divided calcium carbonate and calcium sulfite with sulfur dioxide and oxygen in an aqueous reaction medium which contains chloride and optionally sulfate ions and in which the molar ratios of calcium sulfite to carbonate are from 0.25 to 9: 1, SO ↓ 2 to calcium carbonate from 0, 9 to 1.1: 1, oxygen to SO ↓ 2 from 1 to 2: 1, a pH value of 4 to 5, a temperature of 20 to 60 ° C and a chloride ion concentration of 10,000 to 50,000 ppm are constantly maintained, whereby this reaction mixture is constantly pumped around by means of a centrifugal pump and then spherical calcium sulfate dihydrate grains are isolated from a partial flow as product by means of a hydrocyclone, the free water content of which is then reduced to below 8% by weight on a vacuum filter.
