In order to improve the performance and, in particular, the discharge characteristics over long periods, a fuel cell is used which has an acidic electrolyte and, as the fuel-cell electrode catalyst, an electrolytically deposited ternary platinum-ruthenium-heavy metal catalyst. The heavy metal is ruthenium, tin or the like. The fuel used is a liquid, oxygen-containing hydrocarbon having a low molecular weight, such as methanol, formaldehyde, formic acid or the like. <IMAGE> |
