The invention relates to a process for the preparation of polymers containing laterally bonded polyalkylene oxide chains, in which polyalkylene oxides containing at least two free hydroxyl groups on the initial alcohol, the hydroxyl groups being separated from one another by at most three carbon atoms and the hydroxyl group at the free end of the polyalkylene oxide chain being blocked, optionally reversibly, are reacted with difunctional or polyfunctional compounds which are reactive toward the hydroxyl groups on the initial alcohol, in a manner known per se, if desired in the presence of solvents and/or catalysts and/or at elevated temperatures. The compounds prepared according to the invention have high interface activity and have relatively low viscosity, even at relatively high molecular weights. |
