The present invention relates to the field of inorganic synthesis and in particular to a process for preparing a granular catalyst for the synthesis of ammonia. The process proposed according to the invention consists in melting and oxidising iron with the use of promoters to produce a melt of the catalyst composition, and in subsequent granulation. According to the invention, the melting and the oxidation of iron with the use of promoters are carried out simultaneously in a thin film of the melt of the catalyst composition being formed, while granulation of said melt is effected by an air stream which ensures the horizontal movement of the granules produced and their cool-down to 1000 DEG C; then the granules produced, as they cool down spontaneously, are reduced by means of a reduction gas. The process proposed is expected to find wide use in the nitrogen industry. |
