titleOfInvention ELECTROCHEMICAL CELL FOR DETECTING PHOSPHORIC ACID ESTERS IN THE ATMOSPHERE
abstract The presence of toxic phosphoric acid esters in the atmos. is detected by a cell divided by a vertical diaphragm into two compartments contg. an immobilised alkaline electrolyte whose surface in each compartment is covered by a sieve-like Ag electrode. An oxime is fed into one compartment and the current flowing in a circuit closing the electrodes is proportional to the toxic component concn. A layer of silicone rubber covered with silver fluoride is laid on the electrolyte surface adjacent the electrode. The electrode support may be an ion-exchange membrane. A third Ag electrode may be used, connected to a movable contact on a potentiometer joining the other electrodes, in which case the coated silicone rubber layer may be omitted. The silver fluoride converts V agents into G agents, and is also more effective than the cell in the parent patent for binding those additional gases which could produce interference signals at the electrodes. The third electrode system is used when only G agents are involved.
