titleOfInvention METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF ETHENTETRACARBONSAEURETETRAALKYLESTERS
abstract In the prepn. of ethylene tetracarboxylic acid tetraalkyl esters, (I), by reacting opt. halogenated dialkyl malonates, (IIA), or opt. monohalogenated ethane-1,1,2,2,- tetracarboxylic acid tetraalkyl esters, (IIB), with bases and opt. sufficient halogenating agent to form (I), the bases are used as aq. lye solns. under the formation of a 2-phase system. (I) are intermediates for the prepn. of ethylene tetracarboxylic acid and its salts, used as builders in detergent compsns. Detergent compsn. builders can also be prepd. by epoxidising (I) with H2O2 and saponifying. The process is simple, economical and also allows the use of non-halogenated dialkyl malonates as starting materials.
