titleOfInvention METHOD AND DEVICE FOR TREATING THE SURFACE OF PARTS, IN PARTICULAR THE INTERIOR SURFACES OF PLASTIC-FUEL CONTAINERS
abstract Surfaces of articles, esp. the interior surfaces of plastic fuel tanks with the properties of polythene, are treated with a medium which is normally inert; the medium is fed into an evacuated chamber contg. the article and is energised into a state of plasma at reduced gas pressure. A vehicle fuel tank of polythene is connected to a vacuum pump, to a valve controlling the feed of gas, and to a gas pressure valve. The tank is placed inside a partically evacuated chamber to prevent the tank from collapsing under external pressure. A condenser plate lies each side of the tank, the plates are connected to a h/f generator and energised at suitable level to strike a plasma state. Impervious barrier film is produced on polymer surface, medium only splits off radicles when energised, process is easily controlled e.g. by pressure or supply of gas, energy intensity or duration.
