ORAL AND DENTAL CARE WITH ANTIPLAQUE EFFECT |
abstract |
New mouth and dental care prepns. contain readily soluble salts of formula X+(ZnCit)- (I) (where Cit is the citric acid residue; and X is cation which imparts good water solubility to the zinc/citric acid complex). The complexes (I) have anti-plaque activity. This is attributed to (a) ready absorption by the oral mucous membranes, (b) stimulation of saliva secretion, (c) gradual release of zinc ions, and (d) direct effects on oral bacteria. (I) are practically non-toxic. Their water-solubility is high, so that they can be administered orally in practically any amt. without the risk of crystal deposition. |
