titleOfInvention METHOD FOR PRODUCING 2,4-DINITRO-6-BROMANILINE
abstract Prodn. of 2,4-dinitro-6-bromoaniline (I) comprises reaction of 2,4-dinitroaniline (II) with bromine in aq. suspension at above 40 deg.C, and adding sufficient H2O2 to the reaction mixt. to oxidise the hydrogen bromide formed. In a pref. procedure, a suspension of (II) in water is reacted with about half the equimolar amount of bromine, and H2O2 is subsequently added. In an alternative procedure, a suspension of (II) in aqs. HBr is treated with H2O2. (I) is a raw material for the prodn. of dyes, bactericides and other pharmaceuticals. Oxidn. of HBr with H2O2 reduces by half the amount of bromine required.
