METHOD, DEVICE AND FOOD MEDIUM FOR DETECTING BACTERIAEMIA |
abstract |
A measured amt. of blood is aspirated via a blood sampling system into a vessel of a blood culture system in which there is a vacuum or which is filled with a special gas, and in doing so is mixed with a liq. nutrient medium having antibacterial additives. A solid nutrient medium is inoculated with the mixt., and subsequently bacterial cultures are produced in both the liq. and the solid nutrient medium by incubation of the vessel at a partic. temp. and tilted at a partic. angle, the bacterial cultures being made visible by addn. of an indicator dye. The vessel of the blood culture system is in the form of an ampoule with an annular constriction the position of which relative to the length of the ampoule is adapted to the ratio (pref. 1:3) of solid to liq. nutrient medium, which can contain antibactericidal substances, substances to inhibit blood coagulation (pref. indomethacin and carrageenan in the liq. part of the medium), and a pH-dependant indicator system. The procedure and appts. increase the unlikelihood of contamination, and simplify the process of blood sampling and culture. |
