abstract | Polymerisation is carried out (dis)continuously in the gas phase or in a hydrocarbon dispersant at 2-40 bar/60-100 deg. C, opt. with H2 as mol. wt. regulator, using as a catalyst component an activatable material obtd. by successive two stage treatment of a solid starting material contg. Mg and halogen. In the first stage (A) the starting material is treated with an alkoxy cpd. of an element of main or sub-gp. I,II,III,IV, V and/or VI and with a halogen-contg. metal cpd. of sub-gp. IV and/or V. In stage (B) treatment is with a halogen-contg. metal cpd. of sub-gp. IV and/or V and with an organometallic cpd. of main gp. II and/or III. In an alternative process stage (B) precedes stage (A). Activation of the catalyst obtd. is pref. by addn. of an organo-Al cpd. The solid starting material is pref. obtd. by reacting a hydrocarbon-sol. Mg cpd. and a 1-6C chloro-hydrocarbon (cpd.) contg. at least directly bonded Cl atoms. Polyolefins of wide mol. wt. distribution are obtd. |
