titleOfInvention METHOD FOR PRODUCING SEAL SALT FROM SEA SALT
abstract In nutritionally valuable common salt prepn. from sea water- mother liquor and NaCl, a part of the Mg ions present in the sea water-mother liquor is pptd. colloidally as MgCO3.3H2O, by adding a mixt. of Na2CO3 and NaHCO3, pref. in Na2CO3:NaHCO3 wt. ratio 90:10. The total salt mixt. is then dried quickly, pref. in vacuo, to prevent MgCO3.3H2O crystallisation. A flowable prod. is obtd. NaHCO3 presence prevents the formation of basic Mg carbonate, which has an unpleasant taste. On sealing of salt with colloidal MgCO3.3H2O (nesquehonite), the nesquehonite dissolves in gastric juice at room temp. whereby the full MgCl2 content of salt is made available and can be resorbed by the body.
