abstract The stop valve for a large-diameter pipe handling gas at high temperature and pressure, has a spherical rotary plug with two trunnions working in bearings in the housing, also two axially-sliding sealing rings pressed against the plug. Locking bolts (14a-d) in the housing, actuated by rams (16a-d), engage with the plug (4). The trunnions of the latter each have a setting cylinder acting in the direction of the axis of rotation, also length and temperature measuring devices. The rams and the cylinders are connected to a control unit regulating their pressurisation dependent on the position of the plug and the lengthwise expansion and temperature of the trunnions.
