abstract | Monolithic shaped products with micro-structured surface are made from a crosslinked polymer contg. (1) stiff segments of mono- or poly-valent gps. contg. one or more carbocyclic and/or heterocyclic gps., and (2) flexible segments of mono- or poly-valent gps., pref. of polyester, polysiloxane, polyacrylate, polyether or polyolefin type.Prodn. is by casting liquid oligomeric compsns. in a mould and hardening by actinic radiation.Used as diffraction gratings, reflective film with a surface pattern of cube-corner prism elements for road signs, etc. video-recording discs. Fresnel lens elements, ophthalmic lenses, etc. The process allows rapid mass-prodn. without pollution by evolution of solvent or other volatiles, and can be carried out at ambient temp. and pressure.The micro-structure on the mould surface is exactly reproduced without loss of detail, which is retained during use under varied conditions by suitable choice of segments, desired properties e.g. toughness, flexibility, optical clarity, homogeneity, solvent resistance, abrasion and impact resistance can be achieved, with high thermal stability of the microstructure.DEAB- DE2954645 C Oligomers of formula (E(H)m(S(H)m)n)p (I) are new.
