titleOfInvention | NEW TERPEN COMPOUNDS, METHOD FOR THEIR PRODUCTION AND THEIR USE |
abstract | New terpene nitrile derivs. are cpds. of formula R1-CH=C(R2)-CN (I) In (I) R1 is 3,3-dimethyl-2-norbornyl, (3,3-dimethyl-2-norbornyl) methyl, 6,6-dimethyl-2-norpinanyl, (6,6-dimethyl-2-norpinaryl) methyl, 2,6,6-trimethyl-3-norpinanyl, (2,2,3-trimethyl-cyclopent-3- enyl) methyl or 6,6,9a-trimethyl-(4a,9a)-decahydro -2,5- cyclobenzocycloheptan-1-yl; and R2 is H, -COOH or -COO(1-6C alkyl). (I) are prepd. by reaction of aldehydes of formula R1-CHO with a cyanoacetic acid 1-6C alkyl ester in the presence of 0.2-10 wt.% of a catalyst in the presence of a solvent which forms an azeotrope with water, at the b.pt. of the solvent/water azeotrope, to give (I; R2 is -COOAlkyl). Alkaline hydrolysis of (I; R2 is -COOAlkyl) gives (I; R2 is -COOH), which can be decarboxylated by dissolving in an organic base and heating at 100-150 deg.C. Alternatively, (I; R2 is H) can be prepd. directly by reaction of R1-CH=O with cyanoacetic acid at 100-150 deg.C in an organic solvent, opt. in the presence of a catalyst. (I) are useful as intermediates, e.g. for plant protection agents, pesticides and pharmaceuticals. They are partic. useful as intermediates for odorants or, when R2 is H, directly as odorants (e.g. for use in perfumes or for perfuming products such as soaps, detergents, powders, bath oils, hair-care agents or creams). |
