titleOfInvention | BINDERS BASED ON COLD-CURING AMINOPLAST FURANE RESIN |
abstract | Cold hardening binder for casting moulds and cores comprises an aminoplast-modified furan resin dissolved in furfuryl alcohol. The aminoplast component of the binder is modified by a phenyl gp-contg urea-, guanidine-, aminotriazine- or hydrazine deriv. and/or by o-o-bound phenolic resins and/or by etherified aminoplasts and the binder soln. contains up to 70%, pref 20-50% (w.r.t end prod) of hydrocarbon solvents. The solvent pref contains at least 25% aromatic hydrocarbons and has a boiling range of 100-300 deg C. Pref the modifier makes up 10-100% of the total aminoplast component. The modified aminoplast is made by carrying out the condensn reaction with the replacement of part or all the non-phenyl gp-contg amino cpd with a phenyl gp-contg deriv of urea, guanidine, aminotriazine or hydrazine, esp benzoguanamine (or a formaldehyde precondensate of these) or in the presence of an o-o-bound phenolic resin or an etherified aminoplast. The binders give high quality, high strength moulds and cores and can be diluted with relatively cheap solvents instead of the furfuryl alcohol previously used as reactant/ solvent, thus considerably reducing the cost of the prod. |
