Treatment of woods, contg. conc. aq. solns. of hygroscopic salts as fire retardants, entails spraying or painting the surface with an aq. soln. contg. 30-35 wt.% Na water glass or 35-55 wt.% K water glass or with a cement slurry of approx. equal amts. of cement and water by wt. The treatment gives the wood a dry surface of good feel. The wood is esp. useful in mines but can also be used above ground. |
