titleOfInvention | METHOD FOR THE SIMULTANEOUS PRODUCTION OF ESTERS, ALKANOLS AND VICINALS GLYCOLES |
abstract | Simultaneous prodn. of alkanol esters and vicinal glycol esters comprises contacting a liq. medium contg. one or more carboxylic acids and a Ru- and/or Os-contg. catalyst with a mixt. of CO and H2 at 100-350 degrees C and >=34 atm. The carboxylic acid reactant can be an opt. substd. 1-12C aliphatic acid (esp. acetic acid). The catalyst is pref. a Ru oxide, carboxylate or halide, or a Ru complex contg. one or more phosphine, phosphite or amine ligands. The reaction mixt. can also contain a co-catalst comprising an alkali(ne earth) metal salts,a quat. ammonium salt, an iminium salt or a quat. aliphatic phosphonium salt. The co-catalyst is pref. used in an amt. of 5-15 moles per g-atom of Ru or Os. The process gives higher yields than analogous processes using Rh or Co catalysts. |
