METHOD FOR OBTAINING VISCOSE PETROLEUM FROM AN UNDERGROUND WAREHOUSE |
abstract |
Viscous oil is recovered from a formation penetrated by an injection well, a production well and an infill well in fluid communication with no more than the lower half of the formation by (a) injecting steam into the injector and recovering fluids at the producer until steam breaks through, (b) recovering fluids at the infill well until >=80% water appears, (c) injecting steam into the infill well and simultaneously an aq. fluid into the injector (at a rate sufficient to maintain a positive pressure gradient between injection well and infill well) and recovering fluids at the producer, (d) injecting hydrocarbon through the infill well (as a slug or comingled with steam) and (e) continuing injection (d) until the water cut of fluids at the producer is >=80%. High vertical conformance results and the method is partic. suited for thicker formations where the problem of steam override is greatest. |
