titleOfInvention METHOD FOR THE OXIDATIVE DEGRADATION OF TOXIC PESTICIDAL RESIDUES
abstract Organic pesticides residues are degraded at the site where the pesticides has previously been applied by teating the site, by a suitable agronomic application technique, with an ac tive oxygen-releasing cpd. (I) which does not adversely affect the environment at the site and releases an effective amt. of active oxygen to contact the pesticide residue. (I) is pref. a K oxysulphate salt, esp. K monoperoxy-sulphate (in the form of 2KHSO5. KHSO4. K2SO4), or K percarbonate. When used on alkaline soils, (I) is pref. applied together with a buffer (esp. Na2SO4 or NaHCO3). (I) is pref. applied as an aq. soln. Method is esp. applicable to triazine herbicides, e.g. allowing such herbicides to be used in crop rotation systems or for weed control before sowing or emergence of a sensitive crop. The method can also be used to neutralise the residual effects of organohalogen insecticides.
