titleOfInvention METHOD FOR SEPARATING NITROGEN OXIDES FROM GASES
abstract The raw gas is treated to ensure that it contains at least the stoichiometric amts. of water (1H2O to 1NOx), and of oxygen, and is fed over a cyanamide, esp. calcium cyanamide. The cyanamide is pref. used as a suspension or soln. in water, esp. using 0.5-200g cyanamide per litre of water; and the removal of the NOx may occur in several stages. The raw gases are esp. waste gases arising in numerous combustion or industrial processes, e.g. in the mfr. of nitric acids or nitrates; in nitrogenation or diazotisation; the oxidn. of organic cpds. with nitric acid; or in pickling steels. Both NO and NO2 are quantitatively removed even when the initial gas has a low oxygen content; and the process is inexpensive.
