abstract | Prodn. of 1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane (I) comprises adding simultaneously, but separately, allyl chloride and aq. H2O2 soln. to aq HBr soln. at 15-30 degrees C. When the reaction is finished, (I) is sepd from the aq phase. Pref an excess of 2-10% H2O2, on the stoichiometrically required amt., is maintained until about the end of addition. Better than 90% yields of high purity (I) are achieved directly. |
