abstract The electro gun for an in-line colour CRT has at least one cathode and two electrodes and a main lens system for electron beam focussing. The lens system consists of four focussing electrodes arranged coaxially. The potential in the lens system decreases monotonically in an axial direction from a relatively medium value at the first two focussing electrodes to a relatively low level, from which it again rises to a relatively high level. This second derivative of the axial potential distribution function has two positive and three negative peaks. The magnetic field generated by a deflection yoke has a very uniform distribution.
