Protective coating compsn. for application to glass and ceramic surfaces, comprises (a) a curable silicone resin and (b) a silicone oil. Pref. wt. ratio (a):(b) is 1-10:1, esp. 2:1. The compsn. is pref. made up in an inert solvent for the resin such as aliphatic, aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbons, alcohols such as amyl-, butyl- or propyl alcohol, ethers, ketones, acetic acid esters, THF and cyclohexanone. Pref. solvents are ethers, ketones, acetic acid esters, THF and cyclohexanone. Pref. solvents are ethylene glycol acetate and isopropanol. The compsns. form protective organosilicon layers on heat resistant glass and ceramic materials such as cooking utensils and cooking hobs. The coatings are durable and do not cause smearing of the surface. They are resistant to high temps. and discolouration and are odourless and tasteless. |
