abstract The surface of metal particles or siliceous particles is coated with a polymer binder contg. perfluorinated carboxylic acid having 3-18C or a salt, ester or amide of the perfluorinated carboxylic acid). The metal particles pref. comprise iron particles or spherical steel beads, either magnetised or non-magnetised. The polymer binder pref. comprises a copolymer of methyl vinyl-ether and maleic anhydride, a polycarbonate resin, a silicone resin or a polyurethane resin. The perfluorinated carboxylic acid is e.g. perfluorinated propionic acid, perfluorinated butyric acid or perfluoro-decanoic acid. The coated carrier particles are mixed with a toner for use in developing electrostatic latent images.
