abstract Mfr. comprises casting a compsn. of acrylic beads stirred into an acrylate into a mould, the proportion of ingredients being chosen so that the resulting compsn. forms a load-bearing layer on gelling whilst avoiding polymerisation during the gelling step; placing the object to be embedded onto the gelled layer; filling the remainder of the mould cavity with acrylate and initiating polymerisation of both phases. Pref. 90-150 (100-140)g. acrylic beads are stirred into each 100 g. of acrylate, and the beads are pref. of particle size 50-500 (90-250) mu. After positioning the object to be embedded the remaining space in the mould is flushed out with N2 or inert gas.
