abstract Fluoroalkyl gp. contg. diorganopolysiloxanes with a viscosity of 6,20000000 cps at 25 degrees C are prepd. by (co)hydrolysis of dichlorosilanes of formula R1R2SiCl2 or R3R4SiCl2 (where R1 is RfCH2CH2, Rf is 1-10C perfluoroalkyl, R2 is 1-6C alkyl, vinyl or phenyl and R3 and R4 are as R2 or H); cyclisation of the (co)hydrolysate; and polymerisation of the cyclic mixt. by acid equilibration opt. in the presence of another cyclosiloxane (R3R4SiO)n (whre n is 3-6). The cyclic mixts. can be (co)polymerised with the usual acid catalyst and the use of expensive and pure fluoroalkyl contg. cyclotrisiloxanes is unnecessary. The (co)hydrolysate can be polymerised without further sepn. The low viscosity oils can be used as plasticisers, oil repelling agent defoamers or hydrolysis resistant hydraulic oils. The high viscosity prods. can be vulcanised to form silicone rubbers with resistance to swelling by oil e.g. seals for lubricating systems, fuel pipes and hydraulic systems.
