abstract | A plasticised polycarbonate compsn comprises a high mol. wt. aromatic polycarbonate and a minor amt of an organic, solid plasticiser of formula R-CO-R' (I) or R-CO-R2-CO-R' (II) (where R, R' are each 1-30 C alkyl, or 6-14C aryl opt. substd by 1-30C alkyl or halogen; R and R' can alternatively form part of a ring system of 1-3 rings, which is opt. substd by 1-30C alkyl, halogen, 1-30C alkoxy, 6-14C aryl or 4-10C cycloalkyl; R2 is 1-30C alkylene, 6-14C arylene, 7-30C alkanylene or aralkylene or is formula (III); W is -(CH2)n-; n is 1-10; X, Y are each halogen or 1-12C alkyl). The polymers are readily mouldable and have high impact strength. |
