Hair-straightening compsns. in solid form comprises (A) either (a) a combination of a Ca or Sr hydroxide or oxide and a Li, Na or K carbonate, bicarbonate, sulphate or phosphate, or (b) a Li, Na, or K alcoholate derived from a 1-5C aliphatic alcohol; (B) one or more thickeners; and opt. (C) conventional cosmetic additions. The compsns. are easier to handle than gels or creams, are not hygroscopic like solid compsns. contg. free alkali metal hydroxide, and can be converted into active form (gel or cream) by adding water, which gradually releases the alkali metal hydroxide by chemical reaction. |
