abstract A thermoplastic moulding compsn., which after moulding has an increased buckling resistance, is a mixt. of: (a) a polybutylene-1,4 terephthalate resin; (b) a polyethylene terephthalate resin; (c) a polycarbonate resin; and (d) glass fibres as reinforcing agent. (c) Pref. has a limiting viscosity index of 0.3-0.45 dl/g measured in CH2Cl2 soln. at 20 degrees C. It pref. contains the repeat unit -RC(XY)ROCOO-, where R is C6H4, or halo- or alkyl-substd. C6H4; X and Y are H, hydrocarbon radicals, or radicals which together with the connecting C atom form a cycloalkyl radical, the total number of C atoms in X and Y reaching up to 12. The repeat units -O.p-C6H4. CMe2. p-C6H4. OCO- are partic. pref. Such mixts. give better moulding, and moulded articles which buckle less, than those derived from polybutylene-1,4-terephthalate reinforced with glass fibres. The better resistance to hot distortion is obtd. without noticeable loss of other mechanical properties. The compsns. are also less susceptible to increases in melt viscosity than the reinforced mixt. mentioned above, or polybutylene-1,4 terephthalate alone, or polycarbonate.
