titleOfInvention | METHOD OF DIMERIZATION OF HEXAFLUOROPROPENOXIDE |
abstract | Catalytic dimerisation of hexafluorapropylene oxide (I), opt. mixed with hexfluoropropylene (II), comprises reacting in an aprotic organic solvent at - 10 to +10 degrees C under autogenous pressure using as catalyst (a) a Cu salt or Cu2O and (b) >=1 complex former (III). (III) is of formula R1CH=CR2 (CH2)nCN;R3NC;R4R5R6P or is a 6-12C cyclic hydrocarbon with 2 or 3 double bonds in 1-3 rings. In the formula, R1 and R2 are H, CN or 1-6C alkyl (one alkyl opt. substd. by CN), or together make a 3-10C alkylene, n = 0-5, R3 is (Cyclo) alkyl, aralkyl or anyl (opt. with 1-3 CH3 Substits. and 1 or 2 rings), and, R4, R5, R6 are each as R3. The prod., prefluoro -2-n-propoxypropyl fluoride (IV), is an intermediate for the comonomer perfluoropyl perfluorovinyl ether. This catalyst gives selective dimensation of (I) without significant prodn. of isomers, oligomers and other by prods. which are difficult to separate and causes no dimension of (II). It is suitable for reuse in a continuous system. |
