titleOfInvention DEVICE FOR DETERMINATION OF BODY COUNTS
abstract New aq. nutrient medium for microorganisms is based on usual carbon and nitrogen sources; usual drug-inactivating ingredients; and opt. usual solidifying agents, buffer substances and trace elements. The drug-inactivating ingredients are (per litre of water) 0.2-0.5 g N-acetyl-L-cysteine, 3.5-15 mg Ca2+ 50-150 mg Mg2+, 40-75 mg p-aminobenzoic acid and 7.5-15 mg thymine or thymidine. The medium opt. also contains "Tween" (RTM) 80, lecithin, Mn2+, Fe2+ or Fe3+, and sodium, carbonate and phosphate or hydrogen phosphate ions. The medium is used for determn. of microbe counts in specimens contg. antagonists, antibiotics or residues of other chemotherapeutic agents, esp. on water, milk (prods) and meat prods. It is also useful in determn. of microbe counts in specimens from patients undergoing antibacterial therapy, helping to avoid continuation of treatment with ineffective drugs but avoiding the need to cease drug administration prior to taking the specimen.
