titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF 2-METHYL-4-AMINO-5-FORMYLAMINOMETHYLPYRIMIDINE
abstract In the prodn. of 2-methy6-4-amino-5-(formamidomethyl) pyrimidine (I), a cpd. of formula (IV) (where each R is independently H, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl or N(R)2 is a heterocyclic ring) is reacted with acetamidine. Cpds. (IV) are new and are prepd. by reacting metal salts of 2-formyl-3-formamidopropionitrile (II) with salts of the amines HN(R)2 (III). (I) is an intermediate for vitamin B1. Simple process avoids the use of toxic dimethyl sulphate. (I) is obtained in good yield, and is suitable for direct use in vitamin B1 prodn.
